About The Position

This position is responsible for the coordination and performance of general to advanced maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds maintenance, and repair tasks for the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office. Essential Functions: These are intended only as Illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. Develops and implements a monthly work schedule to include preventive and routine maintenance and special work orders and walk-through Inspections. Performs skilled level work such as carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical. Makes assessments pertaining to work requiring outside vendors, negotiating costs, scheduling work and approving the invoices for signature upon completion of work. Maintains Inventory and equipment assigned to the maintenance department. Maintains adequate and appropriate supply of parts, light bulbs, housekeeping supplies, and other inventory needed for maintenance of office space, building, and grounds maintenance. Maintains a list of approved vendors qualified to conduct electrical, plumbing, roofing, carpentry, and other repair work. Responds to after-hours calls and coordinates actions required with all necessary staff. Paints and repairs buildings, fences, and miscellaneous RCSO property as directed. Repairs doors, windows, lights, switches, office furniture, and plumbing fixtures. Installs equipment and materials as needed for building facilities. Includes daily indoor and outdoor work. Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Additional Duties: Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of construction methods, including electrical and plumbing practices.
  • Knowledge of materials required for construction and maintenance Jobs.
  • Knowledge of standard safety rules in work with plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of specialized Detention Center systems.
  • Skill in the operation of hand tools, including those used in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
  • Knowledge of small engine equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to operate a variety of maintenance and construction tools, vehicles, and equipment to include heavy tools and equipment; to climb into and operate large equipment, trucks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and maintain routine administrative records.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Attention to detail to ensure all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in building and facilities maintenance and repair, skilled trades work, or related field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any required certification.
