About The Position

Under the general supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, the facilities maintenance technician performs intermediate tasks related to day-to-day inspections, preventative maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Performs building and equipment maintenance under the guidance of a senior technician or supervisor. Conducts inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations. Works across multiple trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Responds to emergencies and resolves maintenance issues. May assist and mentor less experienced technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years’ experience in general maintenance or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Obtain the following within the probationary period: valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card
  • Successful completion of probationary period includes demonstrated competence in each of the identified technical specialties as required for this position’s level of responsibility: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC/R.
  • May require valid State of Ohio driver license.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates/technical degree or certificate in skilled trades/maintenance related field
  • Basic understanding of university building design standards (BDS) related to the maintenance and repair of building systems and equipment
  • Basic understanding of the capital project process as managed by FOD Design and Construction

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily building inspections.
  • Complete preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Install and maintain building equipment and fixtures.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clean work areas and equipment.
  • Complete work orders and other required documentation.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Operate a department vehicle.
  • Assist other trades and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Support a professional workplace culture through integrity and accountability.
  • Work schedules, locations, overtime, and on-call requirements may change based on operational needs.
  • Participates in professional development/ continuing education activities: obtaining and maintaining required certifications, soft skill development, etc.
  • Interacts with and assists other areas and staff within the department.
  • Participates in meetings, trainings, orientation.
  • May participate on committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
