About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician I-II is responsible for performing a variety of construction, building maintenance and repair projects for the City of Casselberry. The Facilities Maintenance Technician I-II works independently within established policies and procedures. Pay rate is dependent upon position offered please see the Hiring Ranges below and typical qualifications section for each position: Facilities Maintenance Technician I - $42,654 - $53,318 Facilities Maintenance Technician II - $48,158 - $60,198

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D is required.
  • Technician I – A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in general plumbing, electrical, HVAC, commercial construction and/or maintenance or related field. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Technician II - A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in general plumbing, commercial construction and/or maintenance or related field. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license.
  • A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be made to determine acceptance of past driving record.
  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement background clearance is required.
  • Knowledge (basic level) of local, state and federal regulations affecting work.
  • Knowledge of the proper care and maintenance of tools of the trade.
  • Knowledge of general construction, maintenance and inspection practices in both commercial and residential structures.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of use of common hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance.
  • Skill in effectively dealing with the public and other agencies in a courteous, tactful and impartial manner.
  • Skill in reading engineering drawings or blueprints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability (intermediate level) to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, e.g. Outlook, Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Technician II – Must possess or obtain within twelve (12) months, HVAC Certification, Plumbing Certification and Electrical Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support in the construction, maintenance, and repair in the assigned City-owned buildings and structures.
  • Maintains city buildings; performs minor plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, paints buildings, benches, tables, etc.
  • Performs daily visual inspections of life safety systems and features which include but are not limited to: fire alarm and sprinkler systems, hand rails, entry and egress systems, exit lights and emergency lights.
  • Verifies air conditioning and other building ventilation functionality and makes/schedules repairs accordingly.
  • Inspects and repairs building aesthetic anomalies such as wall damage, paint, baseboard, floors, and other interior and exterior flaws.
  • Responds timely to requests and work orders.
  • Oversees contractor(s) during inspection and completion of contracted work in all city buildings.
  • Builds and installs furniture, shelving, hardware, and cabinetry, as required.
  • Reads, interprets, prepares, and submits drawings and packages as required for permitting of facility construction projects.
  • Performs general maintenance and cleaning of tools, materials, and work stations.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core values of the City, and consistent with City and Department policies.
  • Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Completes monthly P-card transaction reconciliation and submission for approval.
  • Adheres to laws, regulations and policies of the City and of the assigned Department.
  • Follows instructions provided by the supervisor, Department Director or their designee.
  • Participates in department meetings, staff meetings and other related activities.
  • Completes the identified required or assigned training timely and applies acquired knowledge and/or skills.
  • Maintains, preserves, retains and disposes of public records pursuant to FS Chapter 119.
  • Participates as a member of the City staff as required to take action in the event of an emergency.
  • Acts in the assigned role to support the City in disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as described in the City of Casselberry Emergency Management Plan, supervisor or designee.
  • As a member of the Public Works Department may be responsible for the coordination of the maintenance and/or clearing of roadways, the operability of City’s fleet and prevention or drainage of local or area-wide flooding.
  • In addition, as a member of the Public Works Department may be responsible for the maintaining and/or rapidly restoring the operability of the City’s water and sewer systems.
