About The Position

The Maintenance Technician works with the Facilities Manager to ensure all HSHV buildings and property, including, equipment and grounds are maintained, clean and in good repair.

Requirements

  • Must have basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
  • Requires the ability to handle light repairs independently as well as make informed recommendations on large repairs.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize according to urgency of task.
  • Ability to communicate with others and to use normal or aided vision and hearing.
  • Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; analyze and solve problems; perform repetitive work; fulfill deadlines; and interact with staff, the public, volunteers and others encountered in the course of work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the routine maintenance and service to HSHV buildings, equipment and vehicles—including, but not limited to: Check light fixtures, plumbing, heating and cooling regularly to ensure proper working order; Clean lint traps as needed; Vacuum vents monthly or as needed; Check clothes washer and dishwasher soap levels weekly and replace as needed; Fill cleaning solution spray bottles (i.e., Rescue) as needed; Break down and place discarded cardboard in the recycle dumpster; Monitor the outside areas of the building including the dumpster area to assure clean and safe. Clear all outside areas of snow and apply salt as needed. Perform various building repair and paint projects as assigned. Perform equipment maintenance tasks according to the defined schedule.
  • Respond/prioritize and complete work orders in timely fashion.
  • Clean and maintain floors in public areas and hallways using self-propelled floor machine.
  • Occasionally work with/direct volunteers with cleaning assignments and facilities projects
  • Assist with daily distribution of packages (FedEx, UPS).
  • Handle ordering of and receipt of incoming shipments—e.g., cleaning/paper supplies, filters, etc.
  • Perform set up for events, meetings and activities in the shelter and off site as needed.
  • Maintain the organization of the HSHV barn, garage offsite storage.
  • Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Google Chrome and facilities maintenance software(Asset Essentials, Monnit and Sensi app)
  • Ability to contact, organize and direct outside contractors performing repairs or facilities maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned.
