About The Position

The Maintenance Technician supports PCC Carson City’s manufacturing operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production and facility equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Working under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, this role diagnoses and corrects mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues, performs preventive maintenance, and supports continuous improvement. Technician Levels Trainee–4 represent a progressive career path from foundational technical support to advanced diagnostics and technical leadership.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical training in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field.
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, bend, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 35 pounds independently; heavier items require lifting devices or assistance.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery, electrical systems, heat, noise, and industrial environments.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment for extended durations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems and production equipment.
  • Support maintenance of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, HVAC, and vacuum systems.
  • Maintain plant infrastructure including lighting, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment and system issues based on skill level.
  • Interpret basic to advanced diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Support machine uptime through timely and effective repairs.
  • Safely operate maintenance tools, powered equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Utilize measurement tools and testing equipment to support maintenance activities.
  • Follow all plant safety procedures including Lockout Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and hot work permits.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas in accordance with 6S standards.
  • Identify and report safety concerns or equipment issues.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance records in CMMS or applicable systems.
  • Track maintenance activities, parts usage, and repair history.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department and company objectives.
  • Operate basic tools and equipment including hand tools, power tools, and forklifts.
  • Perform daily inspections of tools and equipment.
  • Complete basic preventive maintenance tasks such as filter and belt changes.
  • Support LOTO, confined space procedures, and general safety compliance.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas (6S).
  • Perform basic construction and facility support tasks.
  • Assist with inventory counts and material handling.
  • Operate and utilize maintenance equipment including welders (MIG, TIG, Stick), manual mill, and lathe.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and read diagrams and schematics.
  • Conduct facility maintenance tasks including conduit installation and lighting repair.
  • Perform basic hydraulic and pneumatic repairs (seals, O-rings, fittings).
  • Maintain HVAC systems, pumps, and gas-fired equipment.
  • Perform intermediate mechanical repairs and system maintenance.
  • Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and multimeters.
  • Execute hot work permits and support inventory management.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of electrical systems, machine controls, and automation.
  • Use advanced diagnostic equipment including electronic test equipment and vacuum leak detectors.
  • Perform calibrations for temperature and pressure systems.
  • Support SAT and TUS for heat treat equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair vacuum systems and advanced mechanical systems.
  • Perform advanced welding and fabrication work.
  • Utilize CMMS systems for tracking and managing maintenance activities.
  • Train and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 technicians.
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) in one or more areas (Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation).
  • Lead major equipment repairs, overhauls, and system installations.
  • Install and commission new equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex system failures across multiple disciplines.
  • Develop and interpret diagrams and schematics.
  • Supervise and coordinate work of maintenance technicians and outside contractors.
  • Provide technical leadership and support continuous improvement initiatives.
