About The Position

The Facility Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing the day-to-day technical facility requirements of the lodge including routine preventative maintenance and regularly scheduled preventative maintenance tasks. The role also calls for a variety of non-routine maintenance, general property caretaking, and responding to facility emergencies. The Facility Maintenance Technician is required to provide regular feedback and insights to plan for future building and core system needs. Facility Maintenance Technician employees must be team players capable of building strong direct relationships with their area management team and collaborative relationships with all other in-lodge groups and CMH departments. The role requires the ability to work independently, problem solve, and troubleshoot a wide variety of tasks in a remote location. Flexibility, effective time management, and strong attention to detail is required. This technical role requires multitasking on multiple fronts to ensure department efficiency and operational readiness of the facility. Solid foundational knowledge and experience in all aspects of facility maintenance is necessary. This includes practical familiarity with all core building systems (power generation, fuel storage and distribution, water/wastewater, and HVAC), plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. This position also requires the regular use of digital asset management software (CMMS) and consistent regular record keeping supporting business needs. Business-like communication skills are essential for carrying out regular interactions with vendors, contractors, and CMH management. Daily use of office computers and various communication devices will be required to support daily activities while supervising 3rd party on-site visitors. This is a full-time, year-round role scheduled collaboratively with area management based on facility needs and agreed employee time commitments.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of building maintenance experience.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 with Transport.
  • Driver’s License required
  • Experience with small engine repair and routine maintenance for generators, off-road vehicles, chainsaws, and similar equipment.
  • Experience with general building repair and maintenance as it relates to all core trade applications.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and performing minor repair of electrical systems and their controls, including high and low voltage AC and DC circuits.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a complex and fast-paced environment with seasonal workload fluctuations and changing priorities.
  • Motivated team player who is willing to pitch in and help others, as required.
  • Ability to develop co-operative relationships with a variety of diverse individuals.
  • A willingness to share knowledge and skills with others.
  • An understanding and desire to promote equality and respect within the workplace.
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to work towards big picture goals and priorities.

  • Experience with the operation of off-road vehicles.

  • Experience with radio communication and a willingness to comply with required protocols and best practices with regards to radio communication.
  • Ability to lead and give clear direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Class 4 Driver’s License, preferred.
  • Post-Secondary education or long-term apprenticeship in a relevant facility maintenance trade, preferred.
  • Chainsaw Operator Certification, preferred.
  • Pool/Spa Operator Certification (CPO), preferred.
  • Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment through competent trade-based skill sets.
  • Perform custodial duties such as garbage removal, processing of recyclables and composting, snow removal, and general cleaning of workspace.
  • Manage facility assets through the effective use of the online maintenance management software program including facility records and logs.
  • Communicate in a business-like fashion with CMH management, suppliers, and vendors by means of email, phone, and other available resources and platforms.
  • Maintain a clear understanding and compliance with all operational and safety standards.
  • Take the lead on the CMH Isolated Worker program during non-operating seasons.
  • Oversee and prioritize maintenance projects and tasks through to completion.
  • Supervise 3rd party contractors and suppliers on-site, as required.
