About The Position

The Orange County Asset Management Services Department has an internal opening for a Facilities Maintenance Technician II. An employee of this class is primarily responsible for performing preventive maintenance to HVAC systems and controls, electrical delivery systems and stand-by generators as well as making repairs to County buildings and infrastructure (i.e. electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall and door/window locks). An employee of this class is required to be available for on-call response and the management of facilities issues as part of an on-call schedule, as the department is responsible for facility conditions twenty four hours per day, 365 days per year. In addition, this position will be required to respond to inclement weather conditions that may affect County facilities and operations as well as community emergency response, Red Cross assistance and Emergency Services support during declared state of emergency operations. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required. The hiring range for the position is the full range on the job specification since it is an internal posting. This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Background Check is required. Fitness for Duty Assessment is required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency.
  • Three (3) years of experience in maintenance and/or renovations/repairs included in the four building trades.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain CFC Universal certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Participation in the County’s Drug and Alcohol Program is required.
  • Successful clearance of a background check.
  • Successful clearance of a Fitness-for-Duty assessment.
  • Successful clearance of pre-employment drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to obtain specific technical certifications, as deemed necessary by supervisor.
