About The Position

The Orange County Child Support Services Department has an internal opening for a Child Support Officer. The work involves the primary responsibility for providing intake, location, establishment of paternity, and establishment and enforcement of child support orders. An employee in this class is responsible for enforcing child support orders, exercising procedural judgment in planning legally appropriate course of actions, negotiating settlements, providing legal with case facts, arranging paternity testing, establishing and modifying child support orders and managing cases. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Child Support Assistant Director with considerable leeway for independent judgement within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required. Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year of direct work experience in performing eligibility, investigative, judiciary or legal work related to Child Support programs; OR An equivalent combination of education, training and experience as stated above.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated is required.
  • Successful clearance of a Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Check.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services is preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
  • Current Notary of Public certification at hire or the ability to obtain within six-months of hire.
