About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Apprentice supports safe, reliable, and compliant hospital operations by completing routine preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and low-complexity corrective work orders under close supervision. This role assists with life-safety inspections and documentation, applies safe work practices, and delivers timely, customer-focused service to both clinical and non-clinical areas. Apprentices gain exposure to multiple trades while learning organizational procedures and technical skills essential to facilities operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Basic computer skills to navigate the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and email.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools and follow written procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license in accordance with hospital policy.
  • OSHA-10 (General Industry or Construction) within ninety (90) days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year general maintenance or trades experience in any setting.
  • Exposure to HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, or electrical systems.
  • Prior CMMS use and/or work in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete basic PM tasks and low-complexity work orders on building systems (e.g., doors, fixtures, light bulbs) under supervision.
  • Perform routine inspections (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, egress) and document results according to policy.
  • Assist with utility outages and emergency response activities, following directions to ensure safe restoration.
  • Use basic hand and power tools safely; comply with PPE, ladder/lift safety, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Enter work orders and update task status in the CMMS accurately and on time.
  • Communicate clearly with staff and customers regarding work status, access needs, and safety precautions.
  • Apply hospital infection prevention practices during maintenance activities.
  • Escalate issues promptly and seek guidance on unfamiliar tasks or conditions.
