About The Position

Performs a variety of complex, skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings and facilities. This includes work on backup power systems, switching equipment, mechanical apparatus, boilers, domestic hot water systems, pumps, utility systems, athletic facilities, and general maintenance on various building systems. The role also involves installation and repair of plumbing, carpentry, and monitoring safety standards.

Requirements

  • Skilled duties related to construction, maintenance, and repair of city buildings and facilities.
  • Maintenance and repair of backup power systems, switching equipment, light fixtures, and mechanical apparatus.
  • Monitoring inventory requirements and obtaining tools.
  • Preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
  • Maintenance of boilers, domestic hot water systems, pumps, and utility systems.
  • General maintenance on various building systems including motors, pumps, valves, bearings, floats, pulleys, belts, switches, relays, plugs, light ballasts, light photo cells, fuses, circuit breakers, timers, transformers, door hardware, floor and ceiling repair, drywall, painting, and caulking.
  • Repair of concrete installations.
  • Installation and repair of plumbing piping and fixtures.
  • Routine plumbing, drain clearing, and maintenance of plumbing fixtures.
  • General carpentry, maintenance of building woodwork, fabrication of shelving, furniture repair, and lock repair/replacement.
  • Monitoring building and facility safety standards.
  • Making recommendations for facility upgrades to comply with safety codes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of city buildings and facilities.
  • Maintains and repairs backup power systems, switching equipment, light fixtures, and mechanical apparatus.
  • Monitors typical inventory requirements for ongoing projects and obtains necessary tools.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment, including boilers, domestic hot water systems, pumps, and utility systems.
  • Performs general maintenance on various types of buildings, equipment, and systems such as motors, pumps, valves, bearings, floats, pulleys, belts, switches, relays, plugs, light ballasts, light photo cells, fuses, circuit breakers, timers, transformers, door hardware, floor and ceiling repair, drywall, painting, and caulking.
  • Repairs concrete installations.
  • Performs installation and repair of plumbing piping and fixtures, ensuring proper pump size for required pressure.
  • Performs routine plumbing, clears and cleans drain obstructions, and maintains sinks, urinals, and toilets.
  • Assists tradesmen in plumbing work.
  • Performs general carpentry, maintaining physical aspects of city buildings like window and door frames, and woodwork.
  • Fabricates shelving, repairs furniture, and repairs or replaces locks.
  • Assists tradesmen in carpentry work.
  • Monitors the status of buildings and facilities regarding safety standards.
  • Makes recommendations for the replacement or upgrading of facilities to comply with established safety codes and regulations.
