About The Position

Perfetti Van Melle, a leading global manufacturer of confectionery and chewing gum, is seeking an enthusiastic Facilities Operator Maintenance Mechanic for their 2nd shift AWS (12-hour shifts, 5:30 PM to 6 AM, with training on 1st shift). This role involves performing maintenance and repairs on various equipment and building systems, including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, and HVAC. The Facilities Operator/Mechanic will work collaboratively with the Facilities Manager, Maintenance Lead, and other team members, adhering to Integrated Lean 6 Sigma (IL6S) principles for breakdown elimination through preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. Key aspects include condition-based monitoring, visual controls, loss elimination, lubrication management, and calibration. The role also requires coaching operating teams on routine maintenance and CIL (Clean-In-Place) techniques, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, and demonstrating strong mechanical aptitude for advanced repairs.

Requirements

  • 3 yrs. Experience in a Maintenance Role or equally demonstrated mechanical/electrical skills.
  • Capability to read written instructions that include the use of our CMMS (SAP & UpKeep).
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint) & experience in ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (Verbal and Written), Analytical & Problem-solving skills, strong collaboration and relationship management skills.
  • Capability to lead as well as be coached by others using the next level work processes while utilizing the PDCA-Plan Do Check Adjust approach.
  • Must be available to work any shift and must be able to work weekends.
  • Must have strong writing, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Communicates with all levels of the organization, from hourly production staff to corporate officers.
  • Must be a proven leader with a track record of developing skills of individuals and nurturing cooperation within teams.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to manage multiple critical activities simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • General knowledge of proper use of power and hand tools.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and understands basic mechanical concepts.
  • Exposure to noise and dust and other raw materials.
  • May be required to handle caustic chemicals with proper PPE.
  • May have to work outside on occasion in hot summer and cold winter to support factory emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems.
  • Co-ordinate the execution of Building Maintenance program, Facilities maintenance program, and assists when requested in the Processing and Packaging maintenance programs.
  • Utilize IL6S principles: delivering zero breakdowns via preventive/predictive maintenance strategies and technical mastery of maintenance and operation teams; PM Pillar, and CBM, Visual controls & tools Mgmt., Loss elimination, Lubrication mgmt. & Calibration of equipment(s) etc.
  • Role model Values and principles through effective coaching, and building capability of Operating teams via specific training on routine maintenance, equipment breakdown and CIL techniques.
  • Interface with key stakeholders internally & externally to develop and maintain effective relationships, align priorities to deliver the company objectives, and goals.
  • Perform advanced mechanical repairs - including bearing & shaft removal & installation, machine assembly and disassembly.
  • Perform advanced repairs to plumbing, heating and cooling systems and facility related mechanical repairs.
  • Operate machine tools including; lathe, mill, welder, grinder, saws and press.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment following all OSHA, GMP, FDA guidelines.
