About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment and facilities to operate in the safest and most productive condition, supporting continuous improvement, production strategies and plant reliability of equipment and building systems. This role involves understanding and adhering to governmental regulatory programs and policies, practicing and complying with all plant and maintenance department safety procedures, and following all applicable good manufacturing practices (GMP's). The technician will maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), attend training to maintain skill levels, and make improvements and suggestions to optimize the maintenance program. They will execute and document planned and unplanned work findings and data via a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and perform repairs and installation of parts, tools, and equipment, including fabricating or modifying machines. The role includes performing Preventative Maintenance (PM), inspections, corrective repairs, special projects/equipment rebuilds, and executing/resolving equipment breakdowns. Methodologies such as root cause analysis (RCA) and break down analysis (BDA) will be leveraged to identify and resolve equipment issues, utilizing predictive maintenance technologies like ultrasound, thermal imaging, oil analysis, and vibration analysis. The technician will document failure causes and collaborate with the team to prevent reoccurrence. They will interpret technical documents and diagrams, and maintain/repair facility/utility systems including mechanical, electrical, building systems, water heater/boiler, steam, chilling systems, electric power, gas, or compressed air. Execution of PMs and repairs to HVAC, refrigeration, instrumentation, elevator maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, grounds keeping, and mechanical repairs (pumps, motors) are also included. The role may require testing, repair, and replacement of fire alarm, fire sprinkler, smoke detector, and emergency/exit sign lighting systems. Plumbing fixture repair, cleaning, and basic wall board repairs are also part of the duties. Handling plant waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous, in compliance with regulations is required. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing facility performing mechanical and electrical inspections, troubleshooting and repairs
  • Pass plant specific maintenance test

Nice To Haves

  • Some college or formal technical school education with demonstrated aptitude and skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, carpentry, plumbing, and welding techniques.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
  • Two years in food manufacturing environment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to governmental regulatory programs and policies (National Electrical Code, EPA, UBC, local government environmental agency policies).
  • Practice and comply with all plant and maintenance department safety procedures (Lock-Out - Tag-Out; Arc Flash and Hot Work Permits).
  • Understand the concept of Permit Required Confined Spaces and assist with proper alternate entry.
  • Follow all applicable good manufacturing practices (GMP's).
  • Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with OSHA.
  • Attend classes, seminars, and in-house training as needed.
  • Make improvements and suggestions to optimize maintenance program.
  • Execute and document planned and unplanned work findings and data via computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Repair and installation of parts, tools and equipment. Fabricate or modify machines, tools, or equipment.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM), inspections, corrective repairs, special projects/equipment rebuilds.
  • Perform execution and resolution of equipment breakdowns/repairs.
  • Leverage methodologies including root cause analysis (RCA), break down failure analysis (BDA) and cause maps to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance technologies (ultrasound, thermal imaging, oil analysis, vibration analysis) to identify failures and take corrective actions.
  • Document the cause of the failure and work with the team to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Understand and interpret technical documents and diagrams (factory manuals, blueprints, schematics, Single Line Electrical Drawings, mechanical and electrical equipment schematics, pneumatics, hydraulics, P&ID’s).
  • Maintain and repair facility/utility systems (mechanical, electrical, building systems, water heater/boiler, steam, chilling system, electric power, gas, or compressed air).
  • Execute PMs and repairs to HVAC systems, refrigeration, instrumentation, elevator maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, grounds keeping and mechanical repairs (pumps, motors systems).
  • May be required to perform tests, repair and replacement of fire alarm, fire sprinkler, smoke detector, emergency and exit sign lighting system and report any malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Repair, replace and/or rebuild plumbing fixtures and connections.
  • Clean and replace traps, drains, vents and drain lines, faucets, and toilets, basic wall board repairs, including wall board installation.
  • Handle plant waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous, in compliance with regulations.
  • May perform other duties as required.
