About The Position

As a member of the Infrastructure & Corporate Citizenship – Facilities Space Planning Team, the Interior Design/Space Planning role focuses on supporting the workplace and facility systems in a wide range of facilities that GM has around the world. You will work with an industry leading team that designs, builds/constructs, and maintains facilities and building assets for vast operating functions. Doing so in a safe, compliant, cost-efficient manner utilizing advanced technology to support social & ecological sustainability. We create the future and not just plan for it.

Requirements

  • Develop interior design concepts aligned to workplace guideline (look/feel, materials, color, lighting) for workplaces aligned to brand, ergonomics, and comfort.
  • Own and apply interior design standards, finish palettes, and guidelines across sites and projects.
  • Translate program requirements and workplace strategy into interior layouts for workspaces, collaboration areas, amenity spaces, and support zones.
  • Select and coordinate interior finishes, fixtures, furniture, graphics, and specialty elements (e.g., display areas, cafés, training spaces).
  • Produce/design-review drawings, renderings, and specifications for interiors packages.
  • Support test fits and reconfiguration studies where interior solutions impact seating, adjacencies, or amenity layouts.
  • Recommend furniture/finish solutions, support bids, evaluate vendor proposals, and provide direction to dealers/manufacturers.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and mock-ups for compliance with design intent and standards.
  • Conduct site walks during construction to verify installation of finishes, furniture, signage, and lighting against design.
  • Support punch-lists and quality checks for interior elements before Day-1.
  • Shape the user experience of space (wayfinding, branding, environmental graphics, feature areas, cafés/kitchenettes, training centers, etc.).
  • Gather feedback on interior performance (comfort, usability, aesthetic quality) and feed lessons learned into future standards and projects.
  • Lead supplier discussions & furniture procurement process
  • Oversee and lead furniture interior projects (reconfigurations, additions)
  • Confirm that proposed plans are safe, functional, aesthetically appropriate and meet all public health, safety, state and local code requirements.
  • Develop scope and preliminary design development
  • Coordinate creation of furniture installation documentation
  • Confirm integration to building infrastructure in conjunction with engineering staff including electrical, lighting, plumbing, HVAC
  • Create custom millwork details
  • Interface with CAFM Service Center to obtain architectural documentation & submit as built documentation to CAFM for updating master files
  • Develop conceptual test fit designs
  • Provide 2D and 3D preliminary concept studies
  • Create furniture installation schedule
  • Conduct furniture installation project meetings
  • Document and integrate project lessons learned into Workplace Design Guidelines
  • Conduct formal bid process for materials and services, per purchasing guidelines
  • Act as a client representative in the administration of bids
  • Define performance criteria and facilitate bid meetings with potential vendors
  • Evaluate product offerings and advise recommended solution with suppliers
  • Specification and acquisition implementation relative to interior finishes/furniture/FF&E
  • Conduct field verification as required
  • Create adjacency schematics
  • Manage surplus furniture inventory (propose, manage, move, coordinate removal & installation)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily interface and coordination of all facilities related activities for their respective building(s) and/or business unit to ensure high quality and timely delivery of building maintenance and housekeeping services
  • Maintain open communication between the tenant and Sustainable Workplaces
  • Drives strategic and analytical planning to optimize building and facility services guided by industry benchmark standards including: space utilization (move service center, furniture/ergonomics), energy efficiency, Service Agreement deliverables, and On-Demand activities.
  • Responsible to ensure the Service Provider is delivering efficient and timely execution of all facility services in the areas of Maintenance, Housekeeping, Roads & Grounds services, as well as diving continuous improvements and sharing lessons learned
  • Drives successful planning and execution Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles and elements
  • Responsible for supporting the workspace transformation projects by actively engaging with the Space Planning team in the change management process for group moves including: move process checklist, customer orientation, and occupancy surveys.
  • Ensuring issue and resolution of daily tenant needs and longer-term projects by pulling in the required resources such as Engineering, Resource Management, Communications, Real Estate, Food and Administration Services
  • Responsible for meeting our GM Global Safety standards, including but not limited to: Speak up for Safety, Global Call to Action, Safety Observation Tours, employee safety concerns, incident investigation, safety module compliance, and sentinel events.
