This specific role, Facilities Ground Worker II, is part of the Maintenance Operations within Milwaukee County Facilities Management. The position is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of facilities and grounds, operating commercial vehicles requiring a CDL with an airbrake endorsement, performing skilled grounds maintenance, operating heavy equipment, and driving specialized vehicles to support facility operations. The county operates facilities 24/7, 365 days a year, requiring candidates to be available for all shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Current resident of the State of Wisconsin.
  • HS Diploma/GED equivalent.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsement required.
  • At least one (1) or more years of work experience in Groundskeeping, landscaping, or facilities maintenance or related.
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Willing to work any assigned shift and be on call for emergency situations.
  • The ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs; push/pull up to 150lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Passing of required training set forth by Facilities Management within the six-month probationary period.
  • Must be able to work in all Milwaukee County facilities, including secured detention/high-security facilities and work in areas with sensitive information and assets.
  • Applicants must successfully undergo a criminal history background check to establish security clearance for Milwaukee County facilities and maintain this clearance throughout employment.

  • Availability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, overtime, shift rotations and holidays as needed or for emergency response (e.g., snow removal).

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment, including CDL required vehicles and heavy equipment, involving inspection and troubleshooting of building systems.
  • Completes work assigned through an electronic work order system using electronic notepads and conducts regular facility inspections to identify and report issues.
  • Conducts routine inspections and maintenance of grounds equipment and CDL required vehicles with airbrakes.
  • Performs maintenance requested by tenants or facilities staff, responding to complex requests and documenting completed work.
  • Maintains grounds by mowing, trimming lawns, and cleaning grounds, including emptying outdoor trash bins. Performs advanced tasks such as tree removal, trimming, and stormwater pond maintenance.
  • Operates and maintains Bob Cats, Back Hoes, and Frontend Loaders for advanced grounds keeping tasks.
  • Trains or guides Facilities Grounds Worker 1 staff and assists with special projects, events, or emergency response.
  • May act on behalf of the Lead on projects or in the Lead's absence.
  • Clears walkways, roads, sidewalks, and parking areas of snow, ice, or debris using plows or other heavy equipment, including plowing and salting roads and snow removal using a Frontend Loader.
  • Supports moves, quality assurance, and coordination of facilities-related tenant requests, as well as events and other facilities tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Uses vehicles and trailers equipped with airbrakes for moving and hauling materials.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of heavy vehicles requiring a CDL with airbrakes, snowplows/salters, trucks with trailers, and other specialized equipment.
  • Performs inspections on all assigned vehicles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
