About The Position

Caterpillar's BCP division is hiring a Facilities Engineer to support facility infrastructure, workspace planning, and capital improvement projects at the Clayton Machine Development Center (CMDC). In this role, you will lead and coordinate facility improvement initiatives, support capital project development and execution, and provide technical leadership for building and site infrastructure. You will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, Procurement, EHS, Security, and external contractors and suppliers to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective facility solutions that support CMDC business objectives. This position is responsible for planning and maintaining office, laboratory, shop, and site infrastructure supporting approximately 400 employees. The successful candidate will balance project execution, facility operations, financial stewardship, and stakeholder coordination while ensuring compliance with Caterpillar standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Collaborating: Partners effectively with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Finance, Procurement, Security, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate activities, build alignment, and achieve facility objectives.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Uses technical knowledge, operational data, stakeholder input, and risk assessment to evaluate alternatives, communicate recommendations, and support sound business decisions.
  • Project Management: Manages facility projects from scope development through implementation, coordinating schedules, budgets, resources, contractors, stakeholders, and project communications.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies facility and infrastructure issues, gathers and communicates relevant information, evaluates solutions, and implements improvements that enhance safety, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Plant Facilities Management: Supports facility infrastructure, maintenance, utilities, workspace planning, and capital improvements while communicating priorities, project status, and facility needs to key stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or a related technical discipline OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting facility infrastructure projects in industrial, manufacturing, testing, research, or product development environments.
  • Experience developing project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, capital requests, and project documentation.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, and facility service providers.
  • Experience coordinating facility renovations, office reconfigurations, infrastructure upgrades, utility projects, or building improvement initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, procurement processes, and project cost tracking.
  • Experience working across multiple stakeholder groups to deliver facility improvement projects and operational objectives.
  • Familiarity with utility systems, building infrastructure, workplace planning, facility operations, and maintenance coordination.
  • Ability to leverage facilities management systems, technology tools, and operational data to improve the planning, execution, and efficiency of facility maintenance and capital projects, while continuously learning and adapting to new technologies and business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support facility improvement projects from concept through implementation and closeout, including buildings, offices, laboratories, workshops, utilities, grounds, and employee-support infrastructure.
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, funding requests, and supporting documentation while coordinating contractors, suppliers, maintenance teams, engineering groups, and stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time execution.
  • Support procurement, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, purchase orders, invoices, and other financial activities associated with facility operations and capital projects.
  • Serve as a technical resource for facility-related needs, coordinating workspace utilization, office modifications, seating plans, and infrastructure improvements that support evolving business requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Finance, Procurement, Security, and external partners to drive facility initiatives, ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements, manage project risks, communicate project status, and identify opportunities to improve facility performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
