Located in the heart of Grand Rapids, the Downtown Market is an innovative combination of Market Hall food merchants, world-class corporate and wedding venue spaces, year round free public events, and the entrepreneurial support of our rentable Incubator Kitchen that helps small food businesses turn their recipe into reality. We are in search of a Facilities Crew team member to join our amazing team. In this role you’ll work Wednesday through Sunday starting between 1p and 5p until between 10:30p and 1:30am (depending on the event schedule each day). The Facilities Crew team member assists in keeping all indoor and outdoor areas of the Market clean and welcoming. In addition, this team member assists with event setups and tear-downs, and partners with the Greenhouse, Events, and Culinary departments on various janitorial related projects. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a general maintenance, housekeeping, and/or a janitorial/custodial role
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Understands and follows best practices related to cleaning tools, cleaning agents, and cleaning equipment
  • Able to follow checklists and standard operating procedures
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to interpret a floor plan and set-up tables and chairs accordingly
  • Focused on guest satisfaction and creating a clean and welcoming environment
  • Displays a positive, good-natured, cooperative attitude
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and often fast-paced environment

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, and bend to precisely manipulate tools and equipment
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds (including tables, chairs, and other fixtures for events at the Market)
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Tolerate exposure to commercial cleaning products, fertilizers and other commonly used custodial and horticultural compounds
  • Work with arms extended at or above shoulder height for prolonged periods of time in order to prune trees, tall shrubs, and to clean and/or dust overhead areas including glass/windows, and perform other maintenance tasks
  • Tolerate exposure to extreme hot and cold outdoor temperatures
  • Climb and work from ladders
  • Wear any and all required protective clothing and equipment
  • Sufficient mobility in wrists, elbows and shoulders to rotate joints several times per day while using tools and equipment
  • Ability to access all areas of outdoor and indoor areas of the market
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, at time as late as 1:30am.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all interior and exterior areas for cleanliness including: lobby areas, dining areas, delivery areas, offices, and facility rental areas
  • Empty heavily used interior and exterior trash containers on a regular basis, monitor and empty all others and recycling as needed
  • Wipe down tabletops and chairs in public seating areas
  • Clean, upkeep and restock public and private restroom facilities on a regular basis
  • Maintain cleanliness of glass (windows, doors, mirrors)
  • Dust, vacuum, sweep, mop, etc.
  • Assist with event set-up and break-down (heavy lifting required)
  • Water greenhouse plants
  • Clean kitchen in office and public event areas
  • Clean and restock all utensils, dishes and cookware in a timely and organized manner
  • Wash and sort flatware, glassware, serving dishes and china
  • Follow proper closing procedures as documented
  • Other duties as assigned
