About The Position

The Facilities Associate helps maintain clean, safe, attractive, and functional library facilities. This position is responsible for routine custodial services, basic facility maintenance, and the setup and maintenance of public spaces, meeting rooms, programming areas, and equipment. The Facilities Associate plays an important role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for library patrons, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Experience in custodial, janitorial, facilities maintenance, or related work preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, equipment, products, and safe chemical handling practices preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming facilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and established cleaning and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely operate custodial tools and equipment used in performing assigned duties.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and promptly to facility needs and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with library staff.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movements.
  • Ability to safely lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to move and set up tables, chairs, furniture, equipment, boxes, and supplies as required.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
  • Regular exposure to cleaning products, chemicals, dust, odors, dirt, and other conditions commonly associated with custodial and facilities work.
  • Requires the ability to respond promptly to spills, safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and other facility needs.
  • May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Clean public areas, staff workspaces, meeting rooms, restrooms, offices, breakrooms, and other library spaces.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect library facilities.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of waste.
  • Restock restroom, cleaning, and custodial supplies.
  • Clean windows, glass, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces.
  • Maintain exterior entrances, sidewalks, and outdoor areas.
  • Assist with seasonal, preventative, and deep-cleaning projects.
  • Perform routine building inspections and identify maintenance, repair, or safety concerns.
  • Report maintenance concerns, repair needs, hazards, or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Replace light bulbs and perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Monitor the overall appearance and condition of the facility and address issues as needed.
  • Respond promptly to spills, facility concerns, hazards, and facility emergencies as assigned.
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, equipment, and displays for library programs, meetings, and community events.
  • Prepare meeting rooms and programming spaces for public use.
  • Assist with moving shelving, furniture, supplies, and other equipment as needed.
  • Provide facilities support for large-scale library events and community gatherings.
  • Monitor custodial supply inventory and request or order supplies as needed.
  • Maintain custodial tools and equipment in clean and good working condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures for the safe use, handling, storage, and disposal of cleaning products and chemicals.
  • Maintain secure storage of custodial chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
  • Follow applicable workplace safety requirements and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with library staff to address custodial and facility needs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support library operations and facility needs.
