Facilities and Grounds Technician
About The Position
The Facilities & Grounds Technician maintains and enhances outdoor grounds and landscapes while supporting facility operations as needed. The role includes lawn care, landscape and plant maintenance, snow and ice removal, cleaning support, event support, waste management, and other departmental tasks to help provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. The technician also supports general maintenance and operations by performing basic preventative maintenance and equipment and grounds inspections, reporting safety and maintenance concerns, keeping equipment and work areas safe and organized, following applicable procedures and standards, and assisting with special projects and other duties as assigned. The position may also assist with mission work as needed and requested, including truck spotting, food distribution and related community programs, and preparing and serving home-delivered meals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, facilities, maintenance, or custodial experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate landscaping and snow removal equipment.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Availability for winter weather response and occasional schedule adjustments as needed.

Responsibilities
- Maintain lawns, landscaped areas, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and plantings.
- Perform mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, weeding, mulching, and seasonal plant care.
- Monitor grounds appearance and proactively address maintenance needs.
- Apply fertilizers, soil amendments, and other landscape treatments as directed.
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, tools, and irrigation systems.
- Assist with seasonal landscaping projects and property improvements.
- Operate snow removal equipment to clear parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, entrances, and walkways.
- Apply salt, sand, or ice-melt products to ensure safe access during winter weather.
- Monitor weather conditions and respond to snow and ice events as needed.
- Assist Environmental Services/Custodial staff with trash collection and removal.
- Support floor care activities, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and other cleaning tasks.
- Assist with event setup and teardown, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment.
- Help transport equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials throughout facilities.
- Respond to daily work requests and assist departments with operational needs.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance and inspections of equipment and facility grounds.
- Promptly report safety concerns, maintenance issues, and repair needs.
- Use equipment properly, return it to its proper location, and keep storage and work areas clean, neat, and organized.
- Maintain equipment in safe and operational condition.
- Follow safety procedures, organizational policies, and department standards.
- Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist with mission work as needed and requested, including truck spotting; helping with Farm Market, Community Garden, Freight Farms, and on- and off-site food distributions; and preparing and serving home-delivered meals.
