About The Position

Rocky Vista University (RVU) in Billings, MT has an opening for a Facilities and Grounds Technician (Full-Time). This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and overseeing the operation of RVU's facility, including custodial and grounds, lighting system monitoring, and the safety and coordination of campus usage. The role provides backup and support to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds, Facilities and Grounds Sr. Technicians, the Shipping and Receiving Department, and the Security Department. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years job-related experience in the areas of maintenance and/or facilities.
  • Good organizational skills – ability to come up with processes and follow up.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Safely operate and maintain power tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work with confidential material with a high level of attention to detail and discretion.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team-based diverse environment.
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday INCLUDING: Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.; climb 25-foot ladder; and work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staffs at all levels.
  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.

  • May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-campus sites to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1)-three (3) years experience working with Building Automation Systems.
  • One (1)-three (3) years of electronic training with an understanding of electrical and electronic diagrams.
  • One (1)-three (3) years of experience in hands-on maintenance, landscaping or grounds upkeep duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in or coordinate the overall planning and decision-making for maintaining the safety, utility and appearance of RVU Montana.
  • Keep records of inspections and maintenance records of all safety systems within RVU Montana.
  • Assists in creating a schedule or timetable of regular evaluations of the facility, and regular maintenance.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements and modifications associated with the custodial staff.
  • Assists in supervising the work of outside contractors and vendors, specifically, landscaping, plumbing, lighting, door closures, and security related issues, including inspection and completion.
  • Monitor and maintain Lighting schedule while providing support and backup to the Sr. Technician, with the maintenance of the HVAC management system.
  • Submit requests to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds for maintenance projects.
  • Assists the Manager of Facilities and Grounds and all technicians in developing and maintaining a plan for 24-7 coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety and emergencies.
  • Ensure operation and upkeep of vehicles and equipment owned by RVU.
  • Oversees the usage of facilities by RVU Montana personnel/groups and organizations within the university: set-ups, teardowns, and clean-up.
  • Oversee snow removal issues and scheduling.
  • Performs snow removal by shoveling or light equipment.
  • Monitors and maintains the irrigation system and grounds.
  • Read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, plans, and schematics.
  • Ability to work on a rotating on-call status.
