About The Position

The Children’s Aid Afterschool in Action Program at the Charles Drew Campus, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is an afterschool enrichment program operating Monday through Friday, from 2:00pm to 5:30pm. The Facilitator will provide academic enrichment, additional educational instruction, social emotional learning, and the opportunity to engage middle school age children in an array of enriching sports and art-based activities.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Associates Degree.
  • At least one-year experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching is highly preferred.
  • Field of study in Education or Social Work.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and care for up to 20 children, comprising a group or club.
  • Engage middle school age children in fun learning activities.
  • Provide a safe and respectful environment for youth.
  • Collaborate with and provide guidance to an Assistant Facilitator.
  • Develop classroom and behavioral management skills.
  • Implement professionally developed literacy-based curriculum.
  • Develop relationships with children and their families.
  • Assist in the design, planning, and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of the program.
  • Be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude, and provide encouragement to children.
  • Assist in activities or tasks necessary to ensure an orderly operation of the program, such as supervising children during supper.
  • Ensure equipment is properly signed out and that all equipment is properly cleaned and returned.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and trainings.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.
  • Plan, teach, supervise, and organize games.
  • Be available from September through June for the after-school enrichment program, including Holiday Programming when scheduled.
