About The Position

The Children’s Aid Afterschool in Action Program at the Salome Urena Campus, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is an afterschool enrichment program operating Monday through Friday, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. The Facilitator will provide tutorial help for students with their homework, additional educational instruction, social emotional learning, and the opportunity to engage middle school age children in an array of enriching sports and art-based activities.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an associate or a bachelor’s Degree.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one-year experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching.
  • Field of study in Education or Social Work.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and care for up to 20 children in a group or club.
  • Engage middle school age children in fun learning activities.
  • Provide a safe and respectful environment for youth.
  • Collaborate and provide guidance to an Assistant Facilitator.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills.
  • Develop classroom and behavioral management skills.
  • Implement professionally developed literacy-based curriculum.
  • Develop relationships with children and their families.
  • Assist in the design, plan and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of program.
  • Be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude and provide encouragement to children.
  • Supervise children during supper, ensuring equipment is properly signed out and that all equipment is properly cleaned and returned.
  • Plan, teach, supervise, and organize games.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and trainings.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
