About The Position

This position will provide leadership and vision under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director of Learning Services in the support of school counselors by mentoring new school counselors and providing guidance on the implementation college & career readiness initiatives that support the district’s mission and vision as outlined in the strategic plan. The Facilitator of School Counseling and CCR Readiness will also support district leadership and building principals with implementation and planning of building level supports to ensure best practices and continuity of services. The Facilitator of School Counseling and CCR Readiness has a deep knowledge of effective instruction and research- based practices related to school counseling, social emotional learning secondary college readiness and pathways of opportunity for post-secondary success. He/she establishes and maintains positive, on- going relationships and two-way communication with school principals, the career pathways team, school counselors and district leadership, to facilitate practices that positively impact student learning. He/she will also maintain up-to-date understanding of state requirements related to counseling curriculum and ethical standards as well as graduation requirements and compliance.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in school counseling
  • Five years of demonstrated successful implementation of priority initiatives noted in description
  • Experience as a high-school counselor.
  • Valid Kansas Teaching/Counseling Credential

Responsibilities

  • Work with K-12 school counselors to provide support and deliver professional learning.
  • Oversee a variety of compliance related aspects related to secondary programming, standards review, and curriculum resource selection as needed.
  • Plan, present, and gather input and data from monthly counselor meetings for all levels.
  • Be the point of contact for all school counseling questions.
  • Meet monthly with high school department chairs.
  • Conduct observations of all new counselors.
  • Conduct contact visits with all new counselors.
  • Mentor provisional counselors and complete all paperwork necessary for their licensure.
  • Place all university counseling interns and communicate with their universities about their progress.
  • Provide professional development to relevant stakeholders (counselors, principals, staff where applicable) for all district professional development days including SECD standards.
  • Manage Counselor Summer Projects.
  • In partnership with HR, provide input to building principals on qualified counseling candidates.
  • Monitor the implementation of SEL curriculum at all levels.
  • Serve as a resource, as needed, to the core curriculum coordinators to incorporate SECD Standards into all core standards during their normal revision cycle.
  • Serve as a member of the district’s crisis response team, specifically to provide support for students during times of crisis.
  • Be the district point of contact for Xello.
  • Train staff on Xello.
  • Monitor IPS Implementation in all Secondary Schools.
  • Gather data and suggest ways to improve data for individual schools.
  • Collaborate to educate students, staff and parents on career pathways and the many high school options available to our students.
  • Organize and implement a bi-annual Careers on Wheels for elementary students.
  • Collaborate on Chamber of Commerce Career Expo.
  • Serve as district point of contact for the Kansas College Advisors. Train advisors in coordination with Kansas State.
  • Maintain scholarship dollar report for district report card and media reports.
  • In partnership with the appropriate district staff, organize and implement yearly Fall College Nights: Planning for College for Underclassmen Night, NCAA Information Night, College and Financial Aid Night and Scholarship Browsing with local scholarship agencies, FAFSA Completion Night, Hispanic College Night, College Opportunity Night.
  • Keep NCAA website updated.
  • Apply for course consideration when new courses added.
  • Work with athletic directors and counselors on NCAA questions/eligibility.
  • Serve as liaison between JCCC and OPS.
  • Maintain HLC Database for the district.
  • Interact with instructors on HLC qualifications.
  • Monitor and remind instructors about ongoing HLC paperwork.
  • Apply for new College Now course consideration.
  • Liaison for College Now textbooks.
  • Ensure submission of AP syllabi for all instructors on an annual basis.
  • Provide training and program updates for AP Counselors.
  • Coordinate all aspects of AP Testing including choosing of sites, proctors, ordering of tests, dissemination of materials, any pre-administration activities, payment and budget.
  • Coordinate and manage the AP Summer Institute.
  • Edit and publish the annual program planning guides for middle and high schools.
  • Update Xello and the IPS module every time an edit is needed.
  • District point of contact for all questions about course requirements, pre-requisites, and credits.
  • Provide and monitor on-going professional learning for all staff around SEL instruction and supports.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for crisis team needs related to student to crises.
  • Coordinate building response with Assistant Director of BSEL and District Co-Responder when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with impacted building administration on classroom/student support, building support responses and resources for students and staff, communication and collaboration for any community resources, and organization of district crisis team for needed support roles when the crisis involves a student.
  • Provide regular communication and updates related to student SEL initiatives, IPS, and counselors to the Executive Director of Learning Services.
  • Maintain district counseling portion of the website.
  • Approve request for graduation waivers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
