About The Position

This position will work closely with raw materials to create the components used in the assembly process by using hand and power tools and computerized devices to fabricate products with higher level precision. This position may also provide for the maintenance and repair of equipment, tools, and District buildings. The individual in this position will work Monday - Friday, from 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Requirements

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND Completion of trade school or equivalent, with special training in fabrication related trade OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Two (2) years previous experience.
Must hold a valid Oregon Driver’s License
Ability to complete SafeSchools training/certification
Ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card.
Knowledge of District policies and procedures; tools and equipment associated with fabrication work, associated use of materials used in conjunction with fabrication work; building maintenance and repair work; methods and techniques of preparation and application associated with fabrication work; including materials and equipment used in skilled maintenance, repair, and fabrication work; quality control and the examination of parts and components to ensure safe and free operation with defects; safety and first aide practices and procedures.
Skills to read, understand and follow instructions, directions, blueprints and schematics and provide for the proper use, disposal, and storage of associated tools, equipment and materials associated with fabrication, maintenance and repair work; operate a variety of hand tools and specialized machinery and equipment to create, maintain and repair equipment and components.
Ability to understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate office appearance and attire; maintain attendance standards as outlined in OSEA bargaining agreement; greet stakeholders; maintain appropriate office appearance and attire; maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board policy; provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies, procedures and other pertinent information; examine parts and components to ensure that they are free of defects; operate maintain and arrange for repair of related fabrication, maintenance, and repair equipment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; maintain records; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding, make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions; accurately research various information and prepare related reports.

Certification associated with GMAW and GTAW or other fabrication related certification.

Responsibilities

Carrying out gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), to manufacture items and components out of aluminum and steel.
Cutting materials into the required shapes, checking dimensions and thickness
Welding or joining metal and other materials into a wide range of structures and components.
Following engineering plans, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and instructions.
Operating tools and machinery and welding equipment.
Inspecting and testing welds with precision measuring instruments.
Dismantling metal structures.
Cleaning equipment and work areas.
Wearing safety clothing and using protective equipment.
Sets up and operates fabricating machines including, but not limited to brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, plasma cutters, and drill presses.
Designs and constructs templates and fixtures.
Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape.
Maintain inventory of manufacturing product and welding consumables.
Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
May rework and/or repair welded parts and products according to engineering specification changes.
May fabricate and assemble sheet metal products.
May set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating shops, such as radial drill press, end mill, metal lathe, grinders and edge planer.
Other related duties as assigned.
