About The Position

As a fabricator/welder, you will be expected to work with minimal supervision to fabricate and weld parts to engineering drawings, sketches, or other documentation, including verbal instruction, using metalworking equipment. On occasion, tasks assigned may be considered production runs of high quantities. You should be able to plan processes and operations independently. Work is to be performed at the lowest cost consistent with quality standards and tolerance requirements.

Requirements

  • Ability to recognize physical hazards and take appropriate safety measures, including proper use of protective garments, ear, eye, and respiratory safety equipment.
  • Ability to use tape measure, inch and metric scales, micrometers, and dial calipers.
  • Ability to setup and operate cutoff saw, band saw, drill presses, milling machines, and metal forming equipment.
  • Ability to select and cut material type and size accurately.
  • Ability to select and operate most cost-effective method of welding operations.
  • Utilize the most efficient equipment for measuring and cutting materials.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings or other documentation and to work to verbal instructions with minimal assistance.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to work with both fractional and decimal dimensions, inch and metric dimensions.
  • Completion of Forklift Safety Training.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Maximize productivity by performing any duties needed, e.g. manufacture parts, help in other departments, production runs, facility maintenance, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Always use safety equipment when performing welding, brazing, or soldering operations to ensure safety of oneself and others.
  • Be proficient in the welding of various steel and aluminum alloys including stainless steels.
  • Work independently using TIG, MIG, and Arc Welding equipment.
  • Use oxygen / acetylene torches as needed for brazing, soldering, forming, cutting, and other operations.
  • Use of laser supported by Solidworks.
  • Evaluate task and determine most efficient sequence of operations and methods taking into consideration material type, quantity required, plating requirements, tolerance requirements, and other factors.
  • Setup and operate basic metal cutting equipment such as saws, shears, millers, and drill presses to prepare raw material for welding / brazing / soldering operations.
  • Perform final machining operations on occasion.
  • Setup and operate metal forming equipment such as edge rolls, presses, sheet metal brakes, and rollers to form metals.
  • Ability to operate air and power tools for preparing, finishing, and polishing operations.
  • Perform accurate layouts to construct welded assemblies.
  • Fabricate acceptable parts in a timely manner.
  • Submit parts to Inspection.
  • Work directly with coworkers to plan and weld parts others may be fabricating.
  • Correctly select and prepare raw materials for tasks assigned.
  • Notify cutoff personnel or supervisor when material needs to be ordered, whether for a job or when existing supplies are getting low.
  • Notify supervisor when consumable welding supplies are required.
  • Communicate problems to Tool Room Supervisor or Lead in a timely manner.
  • Work as a team to maximize productivity.
  • Provide assistance to others.
  • Show a constant interest in learning other activities or skills.
  • Participate in job reviews when appropriate.
  • Maintain equipment in good order.
  • Demonstrate application of acquired knowledge from Lean training.
  • Maintain orderly work area and clean up area at the end of the day.
  • Be consistently at work and punctual; clock job times accurately.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Observe company policy, safety and security procedures.
  • Perform all activities in conformance with the AGR Quality System and ISO procedures.
  • Maintain and submit accurate time records, both on drawings and in the ERP system.
