About The Position

This is a contract-to-hire position for a Welder in Kalamazoo, MI, working the 1st Shift. The pay starts at $20.00 per hour and is based on experience. The role involves a comprehensive range of welding duties, from interpreting blueprints and preparing materials to operating various welding equipment and performing different welding techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting welds, maintaining equipment, adhering to safety protocols, collaborating with team members, documenting work, and continuously improving their skills in welding technology and best practices.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience as a welder, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
Proficiency in various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and oxy-acetylene welding.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
Strong commitment to workplace safety and knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to welding operations.
Excellent physical fitness and stamina to perform welding tasks, including standing, bending, lifting, and working in various positions for extended periods.
Keen attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality welds with precision and accuracy.
Effective problem-solving skills to troubleshoot welding issues and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and communicate clearly with supervisors and other stakeholders.
Ability to life and or move up to 50+lbs throughout the entire shift.
Ability to stand, walk, bend and stoop.
Ability to use hands to finger, handle and feel.
Specific vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
Ability to understand and communicate (talk-read-hear) work instructions.

Nice To Haves

Additional vocational training or certification in welding is preferred.
Relevant certifications in welding (e.g., AWS Certified Welder) are advantageous.

Responsibilities

Interpret Blueprints: Study and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine the appropriate welding techniques and procedures.
Prepare Materials: Select and prepare materials for welding, including cleaning, cutting, and shaping metal components.
Operate Welding Equipment: Set up and operate welding equipment, such as arc welders, gas welders, and plasma cutters, in compliance with safety standards and welding procedures.
Perform Welding Techniques: Perform various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and oxy-acetylene welding, to join metal components with precision and accuracy.
Inspect Welds: Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet required specifications and quality standards, including checking for defects and performing necessary repairs or adjustments.
Maintain Equipment: Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Follow Safety Procedures: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries, including wearing appropriate protective gear and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Collaborate with Team Members: Work collaboratively with other team members, such as fabricators, engineers, and supervisors, to plan and execute welding projects efficiently.
Document Work: Maintain accurate records of welding activities, including materials used, time spent on projects, and any relevant observations or issues encountered.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in welding technology, and best practices to enhance skills and improve welding techniques.
