About The Position

As a Fabricator II, they will layout and assemble flat and formed plate components using drawings supplied from engineering with minimal assistance from a Fabricator. Tack welding will be required to join parts as part of the assembly. They will set up fabrication components, lay out and grind parts as necessary to develop shape. Assist as needed in the forming of raw plate. This role is classified as Proficient, meaning they must possess qualifications, skills, and experience of former classifications, and be proficient in blueprint reading except geometric tolerancing. They are competent in assembling complex runners, distributor assemblies, shaft to runner installations, Kaplan turbine assemblies, and pump assemblies with some direction and assistance from a Fabricator 3. They are also competent in setting up work cells for effective and efficient operations, performing hot and cold forming operations, generating and implementing Lean continuous ideas, vent checking runners and pumps, and operating main cranes and making lifts of components up to 25 tons.

Requirements

  • Proficient in blueprint reading except geometric tolerancing.

  • Ability to assemble complex shaft to runner installations with some direction and assistance from a Fabricator I
  • Ability to assemble complex Kaplan turbine assemblies with some direction and assistance from a Fabricator I
  • Ability to assemble complex pump assemblies with some direction and assistance from a Fabricator I
  • Ability to make roll set ups, mount weldments on to welding positioners
  • Ability to perform hot and cold forming operations such as buckets
  • Ability to generate and implement Operational Excellence initiatives
  • Ability to vent check runners and pumps with assistance and direction from Fabricator I
  • Ability to operate main cranes and pumps with assistance and direction from Fabricator I
  • Detail oriented

  • GED or High School diploma required
  • Three+ (3+) years experience
  • Large structural fabrication required

Nice To Haves

  • Hydro Fabrication experience a plus
  • Training from college or technical school
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interprets instructions, prints and work orders for the job.
  • Read and record measurements using conventional micrometers, calipers, and related instruments.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Keep supervisor informed of problems regarding work piece, schedule, safety, etc. as conditions arise.
  • Paint equipment and job parts.
  • Assemble finished machined parts to prove fit and for the purpose of further machining.
