About The Position

Build prototype exhaust systems utilizing welding and fabrication equipment in accordance to customer specification with little or no supervision. Assist engineers in producing, installing and benchmarking exhaust systems. Lay-out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble exhaust systems, using knowledge of welding techniques and engineering requirements. Must be able to layout from drawings and specifications and plan welding operations where procedural information is unavailable. Sets-up and operate major machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders etc. to machine developmental parts and/or to fabricate developmental prototype parts/units. Work includes rolling, sizing, sheering, grinding, conducting self-inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. Recommend corrective action to minimize scrap output in the manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Certificate from technical or vocational school in welding
  • Minimum two years’ experience working as a fabrication technician specializing in metal forming or metal fabrication, MIG/MAG and TIG welding, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts and operations, including calculations, percentages, etc.
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and write simple correspondence.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement of products for manufacturability.
  • Knowledge of engineering fundaments, mechanical systems, automotive systems, and exhaust systems.
  • Strives to continuously improve expertise, knowledge and skills.
