About The Position

The Fabrication Technician I is responsible for the fabrication of optical components under the direction of qualified trainer, a supervisor or a manager. This role involves performing basic setups, making minor program and tool offset changes, operating production equipment according to SOPs and job routings, and performing visual inspections of optics for fabrication-related defects. The technician will use basic measuring equipment to ensure accurate part measurements and may be required to cross-train on other manufacturing equipment to provide backup support. Proficiency in basic fabrication skill areas such as grinding, polishing, basic metrology, documentation understanding, and microscope use is expected after training.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand spec sheets, blue prints, work orders and work instructions
  • Ability to think critically
  • Strong arithmetic
  • Demonstrate necessary manual dexterity and visual acuity to skillfully execute processes
  • General computer skills
  • US Citizenship or permanent residence required

Nice To Haves

  • working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry
  • Knowledge of G-Code & M-Code programming, CADCAM programming, and MS Excel is a plus
  • Some technical schooling preferred
  • 1+ years in manufacturing or QA related environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic setups and make minor program and tool offset changes as needed
  • Operate production equipment IAW SOPs and job routings
  • Perform visual inspections of optics for defects related to fabrication
  • Use basic measuring equipment to measure parts accurately
  • Through cross training, become proficient in other manufacturing equipment to serve as backup to primary technician(s)
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency in basic skill areas of fabrication after completing their training in grinding, polishing, basic metrology, documentation understanding, and microscope use.
  • May be required to use a ladder to organize or obtain supplies
  • May be required to use shop and power tools
  • Participate in 6S activities which include but are not limited to cleaning, organizing, sweeping, and mopping work area
  • Other duties as assigned
