About The Position

Performs lay-up of metal bond and composite materials in accordance with customer and company specifications and requirements while also performing in-process and final quality inspections to ensure products meet engineering, customer, and company standards. Follows all company policies and safety procedures while using proper personal protective equipment. This is a dual-role position that combines the responsibilities of a Lay-Up Technician and Quality Inspector.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects and verify product conformance to specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, shop travelers, work instructions, and inspection criteria.
  • Ability to accurately document inspection results and maintain quality records.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and work orders.
  • Ability to identify proper materials and supplies according to specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance production responsibilities and quality inspection duties.
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Previous related experience preferred.
  • US Citizen or Permeant Resident (ITAR requirement)
  • Must be able to wear proper personal protective equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Must be able to accurately read shop traveler instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude to include the ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and work orders.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to identify proper materials and supplies according to specifications.
  • Team player with a strong desire to work in a fast-paced, professional environment.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in one-on-one situations with management and coworkers; listen to others without interrupting and get clarification when needed.
  • Exhibits dependability, including following instructions; responding to supervisor’s direction; and taking responsibility for own actions.
  • Ability to follow priorities and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and work within deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of quality inspection methods, measuring devices, and documentation practices preferred.
  • Previous composite lay-up, manufacturing, or quality inspection experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Applies adhesive to metal detail parts and assembles parts.
  • Lays up composite fiberglass parts according to engineering specifications and work orders.
  • Performs in-process and final visual inspections of parts to verify conformance to engineering specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Visually inspects parts for foreign object damage (F.O.D.) prior to bagging parts.
  • Inspects work pieces for defects, workmanship, dimensional accuracy (as applicable), and overall product quality.
  • Identifies, documents, and reports nonconforming material or product in accordance with company procedures.
  • Vacuum bags parts while ensuring there are no leaks in the bag.
  • Cleans and preps bond tools as needed.
  • Unbags and unmolds parts as needed.
  • Records production and inspection information in the ERP system.
  • Properly completes travelers, inspection records, process logs, recorder charts, and tank information.
  • Maintains clean work area, tools, equipment, and inspection devices.
  • Works with production personnel to resolve quality issues and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
