About The Position

This is an hourly-rated position at the American Bridge Manufacturing (ABM) facility, with typical shift hours of Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. ABM is an AISC Certified Fabricator that supports heavy civil construction projects for the Southland Holdings family of companies, including American Bridge Company. The Fabrication Quality Inspector is responsible for monitoring and verifying that fabricated structural steel products meet project specifications, quality requirements, applicable industry codes, and ABM's Quality Management System. This role works closely with fabrication personnel, project management, and customers to ensure that all products are produced safely, accurately, and in accordance with contract requirements.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, quality control, quality assurance, or related industrial manufacturing.
  • Can read and interpret fabrication drawings, structural steel shop drawings, specifications, and inspection procedures.
  • Is detail-oriented and highly organized with strong documentation skills.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and common shop practices.
  • Can independently evaluate fabrication work and make sound quality-related decisions.
  • Is safety-oriented and exhibits safe work habits.
  • Has strong communication skills and can effectively work with shop personnel, supervisors, customers, and inspectors.
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
  • Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post-offer drug test.
  • Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.
  • Must possess a professional attitude and be committed to supporting our customers' quality expectations and project requirements.
  • Must be willing to work collaboratively with fabrication, welding, and project management personnel to achieve production and quality objectives.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within an AISC Certified Fabricator environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code preferred.
  • Nondestructive Testing (NDT) certifications and/or experience are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of structural steel assemblies, weldments, and fabricated components.
  • Verify compliance with approved shop drawings, customer specifications, contract requirements, and applicable industry codes.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using measuring instruments, including tape measures, calipers, squares, levels, and other inspection tools.
  • Inspect fit-up, material preparation, welding, bolting, and fabrication activities throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Review and verify material traceability, mill test reports, and fabrication documentation.
  • Monitor conformance to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and applicable welding codes.
  • Document inspection results and maintain quality records in accordance with ABM's Quality Management System
  • Identify, document, and track nonconforming materials, workmanship issues, and corrective actions.
  • Communicate quality concerns to supervisors, production personnel, and project teams.
  • Participate in internal audits, customer inspections, and third-party audits as required.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with AISC certification requirements.
  • Conduct pre-shift safety inspections of work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Promote safe work practices and support ABM's commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
