About The Position

The Fabric Worker will support a Naval Air Command program located at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station, NJ. The Fabric Worker assists Journeyman and/or performs fabricating, assembling, modifying, and repairing various articles of fabric and other materials including Aircraft Emergency Recovery Barricades, Engines Inlet Screens and other special equipment covers. Requirements

  • Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance which requires U.S citizenship.
  • Knowledge of sewing, stitching and bonding techniques typically performed on heavy, industrial weight fabrics, using industrial equipment, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) sewing machines, manually operated sewing machines, and even hand-stitching if/when necessary.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Journeyman and/or performs fabricating, assembling, modifying, and repairing various articles of fabric and other materials including Aircraft Emergency Recovery Barricades, Engines Inlet Screens and other special equipment covers.
  • Skill in critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications (blueprint drawings, schematics, sketches) demonstrate technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Work from written or oral instructions.
  • Willing to perform difficult and complex tasks.
  • Possess knowledge of materials, measurement, and layout.
  • Perform all other typical work of a fabric worker organization, time management, and multitasking.
  • Ability to operate standard high-speed industrial sewing machines, heat sealers and other machines specific to the project.
  • Clean and perform machine maintenance, troubleshoot, and resolve malfunctions on commercial machines.
  • Operate hand tools (pliers, shears, hammers, gromet setters, searing scissors).
  • Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
  • Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
  • Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers.
  • Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.
  • Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.
