About The Position

This position provides assistance with fabrication, assembling, and installation needs for the maintenance department in order to maintain equipment and create efficiencies. The role involves fabricating metal structures and process piping, adjusting and assembling equipment from raw materials, and making modifications and performing upkeep on existing equipment. The Fab Mechanic III will also assist with line designs, comment on proposed changes and equipment, and perform a full range of basic welding and fabricating duties. They will repair and fabricate industrial equipment, perform other technical maintenance duties, and work with various materials including mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. The position requires operating and maintaining metal fabrication equipment and tools, reviewing plant equipment needs with the maintenance crew and management, and repairing, overhauling, fabricating, disassembling, re-assembling, and moving equipment in and out of the plant. Additionally, the role involves assisting maintenance and production personnel in problem-solving, aligning and fitting parts according to specifications, and preparing surfaces for welding. The Fab Mechanic III must complete assignments in a timely manner, keeping legible, detailed, and accurate records and logs of work, and minimize downtime by utilizing skills to create operational efficiencies. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• 1-year related experience in fabrication and welding.
• Effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing.
• Ability to understand instructions and follow directions in English, both written and oral.
• Must be able to be qualified within time frames established by facility.
• Ability to perform basic math functions.
• Basic computer operation knowledge, data entry skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent certification preferred.
• Lock-out/Tag-out certification is required.
• If you are not qualified, you will be trained and must meet certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assists in fabricating metal structures and process piping; adjusts and assembles equipment from raw materials.
• Makes modifications and performs upkeep on existing equipment.
• Assists with line designs and comments on proposed changes and equipment.
• Performs a full range of basic welding and fabricating duties, fabricates and repairs industrial equipment and performs other technical maintenance duties.
• Works with various types of materials – mild steel, aluminum , stainless steel.
• Operates and maintains metal fabrication equipment and tools.
• Reviews plant equipment needs with maintenance crew and management.
• Repairs, overhauls, fabricates, disassembles, re-assembles, and moves equipment in and out of the plant.
• Assists maintenance and production personnel in problem-solving activities.
• Aligns and fits parts according to specifications, locates and marks workpiece bending and cutting lines allowing for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage and other part specifications.
• Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there are no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
• Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds, or bolts parts to obtain required configurations to weld parts in flat and vertical positions.
• Completes assignments in a timely manner , keeping legible, detailed, and accurate records and logs of work.
• Minimizes downtime by utilizing skills to create operational efficiencies.
• Additional duties as assigned.
