F5 Load Balancing Engineer/Architect

Saxon GlobalPittsburgh, PA

About The Position

This role is for an F5 / Load Balancing Architect within the Network Application Services (NAS) team, which has a primary network focus with an application orientation. The team currently consists of 9 active members and is expanding to 10. The team supports platforms including DNS, F5 load balancer (GTM/LTM), Akamai content delivery, and IBMIDG. The F5 role is separate from the DNS team but involves interaction through GTM layer integration. The environment includes GTM, LTM, and complex F5 rules. This is a strategic role, not primarily hands-on, with hands-on work required only during complex issues. The focus is on the long-term roadmap and architecture modernization, as F5 is considered a permanent part of the infrastructure.

  • Ability to operate at an enterprise scale.
  • Hands-on engineering experience is expected historically.
  • Experience with F5 GTM/LTM.
  • Experience with load balancing rules.
  • Architectural knowledge of F5.
  • Strategic planning skills for F5.
  • Enterprise-level architecture experience.
  • Ability to provide guidance and evaluate improvements across large-scale, complex environments.

  • May step in during complex production issues.
  • F5 role: strategic oversight; not hands-on except for critical incidents; long-term roadmap and modernization planning.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the long-term F5 and load-balancing strategy.
  • Support GTM (DNS-adjacent global traffic management).
  • Support LTM (application load balancing with complex iRules).
  • Guide modernization efforts (reducing reliance on complex iRules where possible).
