F5 Architect/Engineer

Saxon GlobalPlano, TX

About The Position

This role is part of the Network Application Services (NAS) team, which is a network team with an application focus. The team currently has 9 active members and is expanding to 10. The team supports platforms including DNS, F5 load balancer (GTM/LTM), Akamai content delivery, and IBMIDG. The F5 Architect/Engineer role is separate from the DNS team but interacts through GTM layer integration. The environment involves GTM (DNS layer), LTM (load balancing), and complex F5 rules. This is a strategic role, not primarily hands-on, with hands-on work required only during complex issues. The focus is on the long-term roadmap and architecture modernization, as F5 is a permanent part of the infrastructure. There are two highly experienced engineers currently in F5 roles.

Requirements

  • Deep F5 expertise and architectural experience.
  • Ability to operate at an enterprise scale.
  • Hands-on engineering experience is expected historically, but day-to-day work is not primarily hands-on.
  • May step in during complex production issues.
  • F5: experience with GTM/LTM, load balancing rules, architectural knowledge; strategic planning skills.
  • Enterprise-level architecture experience desired.
  • Ability to provide guidance and evaluate improvements across large-scale, complex environments.
  • Strategic, governance-oriented perspective, not purely operational.
  • F5 role: strategic oversight; not hands-on except for critical incidents; long-term roadmap and modernization planning.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the long-term F5 and load-balancing strategy.
  • Support both GTM (DNS-adjacent global traffic management) and LTM (application load balancing with complex iRules).
  • Guide modernization efforts, including reducing reliance on complex iRules where possible.
