About The Position

Transform technology into opportunity as a Senior IT Project Manager at GDIT. This is a senior role responsible for designing, leading, and governing schedule and WBS practices across a portfolio of IT projects. This position is an experienced IT project leader who partners with project managers and stakeholders to structure work, build robust schedules, and drive delivery outcomes. The role manages the master IT project schedule in Microsoft Project Server for initiatives involving new services, products, and software, as well as upgrades and enhancements to existing solutions. It leads the creation and maintenance of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and WBS dictionaries based on IT project requirements, extending our standard WBSs for Initiating, Planning, and Closing phases to cover project-specific work. The F-35 Lightning II Program is the DoWs focal point for defining affordable next generation strike aircraft weapon systems for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and our allies. The F-35 will bring cutting-edge technologies to the battlespace of the future. The JSFs advanced airframe, autonomic logistics, avionics, propulsion systems, stealth, and firepower will ensure that the F-35 is the most affordable, lethal, supportable and survivable aircraft ever to be used by so many warfighters across the globe.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of IT project management experience with advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project Server, and project management best practices, capable of both leading complex IT projects and elevating the scheduling capability of a team of project managers.
  • Experience in analyzing program/project status and providing documentation to support project/program.
  • Experience with ITSM based services.
  • DoD 8140.03 Work Role (802) IT Project Manager - Basic.
  • BS or BA degree. Allowable Substitution: An additional 6 years of experience is required without a BS/BA degree. An additional 4 years of experience is required with an AA/AS degree.

  • PMP and ITIL Foundations (ITIL to be achieved within 3 months of hiring).

Responsibilities

  • Schedule Strategy & Governance: Partner with PMO/leadership to define and implement standards, methods, and best practices for IT project scheduling and WBS development across the portfolio. Continuously improve scheduling practices, templates, and guidelines based on lessons learned and industry standards.
  • Own the design and integrity of the master IT project schedule in Microsoft Project Server. Analyze schedule data to identify cross-project impacts, critical paths, resource/contention issues, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • WBS & WBS Dictionary Design: Lead the design and refinement of WBSs and WBS dictionaries for IT projects based on business and technical requirements. Facilitate workshops with project managers, product owners, business stakeholders, and technical leads to decompose scope into well-defined work packages. Ensure WBSs are traceable to requirements, aligned with deliverables, and suitable for robust scheduling and reporting.
  • Coaching & Capability Building: Serve as the primary coach and advisor to IT project managers on WBS development, schedule structuring, and use of Project Server. Provide practical guidance on defining activities, sequencing tasks, setting dependencies, estimating durations, and managing baselines. Promote adoption of consistent scheduling practices, templates, and naming conventions to improve quality and comparability across projects.
  • IT Project Management: Lead selected complex IT projects (e.g., new product/service launches, platform upgrades, software implementations) end-to-end. Develop comprehensive project plans, manage risks and issues, oversee change control, and ensure delivery against scope, schedule, and quality objectives. Coordinate cross-functional teams (business, development, infrastructure, security, operations, vendors) to drive execution.
  • Advanced Analysis & Reporting: Use advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, advanced data analysis) to interpret schedule and portfolio data and provide insights to leadership. Proactively identify schedule risks and bottlenecks and recommend corrective actions and scenario options.
