Requirements

  • 1+ months of related experience or training
  • High school diploma or equivalent OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to learn software programs used for appointment scheduling and accessing patient information
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively communicate with patients, coworkers, and small groups
  • Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percentages, and interpreting graphs
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a standardized healthcare environment
  • Skill in using office equipment, including copiers and fax machines
  • Ability to multitask while interacting with people in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug screening test.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the initial contact for Capital Health Plan members seeking medical care.
  • Check members in for appointments.
  • Verify membership and coverage.
  • Obtain required visit documentation.
  • Provide information regarding health services recommended by practitioners.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and route calls appropriately.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Document patient interactions within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Manage multiple appointment schedules while accurately recording confirmations, cancellations, and no-shows.
  • Check patients out following patient visits.
  • Print encounter documents.
  • Arrange follow-up care as directed.
  • Collect and record patient cost shares.
  • Prepare and reconcile monies and financial forms.
  • Review visit charges while bringing unresolved alerts or concerns to the attention of the practitioner or supervisor.
  • Perform clerical duties such as sending faxes, making copies, filing documents.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional waiting area and work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
