Requirements

1+ months of related experience or training
High school diploma or equivalent OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Ability to learn software programs used for appointment scheduling and accessing patient information
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively communicate with patients, coworkers, and small groups
Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percentages, and interpreting graphs
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a standardized healthcare environment
Skill in using office equipment, including copiers and fax machines
Ability to multitask while interacting with people in a pleasant and professional manner
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening test.

Responsibilities

Serve as the initial contact for Capital Health Plan members seeking medical care.
Check members in for appointments.
Verify membership and coverage.
Obtain required visit documentation.
Provide information regarding health services recommended by practitioners.
Answer incoming phone calls and route calls appropriately.
Schedule appointments.
Document patient interactions within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Manage multiple appointment schedules while accurately recording confirmations, cancellations, and no-shows.
Check patients out following patient visits.
Print encounter documents.
Arrange follow-up care as directed.
Collect and record patient cost shares.
Prepare and reconcile monies and financial forms.
Review visit charges while bringing unresolved alerts or concerns to the attention of the practitioner or supervisor.
Perform clerical duties such as sending faxes, making copies, filing documents.
Maintain a safe, organized, and professional waiting area and work environment.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
