About The Position

The Extrusion Technician C demonstrates the ability to accurately perform and record pipe dimensions using micrometers, O.D. tapes, calipers, and tape measures. They are also expected to correctly package units, identify non-conforming products, and make minor adjustments to equipment. This role is responsible for general cleaning of the production floor and assigned lines, reading and interpreting work orders, preparing specification and daily production paperwork, and troubleshooting extruder, downstream, and material handling equipment. The technician will examine items produced to ensure they meet specifications and recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality. They will also suggest changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency and safety. The role requires setting up machines and equipment, cleaning equipment and work areas once per shift, and operating a forklift daily. Overtime and/or call-in to cover shifts may be required.

Requirements

  • Ability to accurately perform and record pipe dimensions using micrometers, O.D. tapes, calipers and tape measures.
  • Ability to correctly package units.
  • Ability to identify non-conforming products.
  • Ability to make minor adjustments to equipment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Forklift Training Certificate.
  • May be required to have basic knowledge of Lead Operator position to fill-in if Lead Operator is gone.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work in a safe manner and promote safe work habits.
  • Is responsible for general cleaning of the production floor and assigned lines.
  • Reads and interprets work orders to determine machine setup, production methods and sequence of operation.
  • Prepares specification and daily production paperwork; neat and accurate.
  • Selects, positions, and secures dies, heads and tooling onto extruder.
  • Adjusts controls to set and regulate speed, heat and pressure of machines.
  • Starts machine and observes machine operation to produce pipe to specifications for dimensions and appearance.
  • Trouble shoots all extruder, downstream and material handling equipment.
  • Examines items produced to determine if items meet specifications.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency and safety of the department, or work crew.
  • Stops machine and reports malfunction to supervisor.
  • Assists workers in solving work problems, assisting in all areas of the production area.
  • Sets up machines and equipment.
  • Cleans equipment and work areas up once per shift.
  • Be able to operate Forklift daily.
  • Over Time and/or Call In to cover shift when short manpower may be required.
