This position is responsible for safely operating the extrusion press in order to produce aluminum extruded shapes that meet customer specifications, and for participating in 5S initiatives in the extrusion press area. The operator will ensure that safety is always the number one priority, promote and support a safe work environment and safety oriented culture by following all safety programs and guidelines. They will set up and run equipment safely and efficiently to maximize output while meeting customer quality requirements, and support the company’s key corporate values, objectives and strategies. The role involves cross-training in as many functions in the department as possible, understanding and verifying manufacturing orders to identify internal and customer specifications, and conducting all processes and procedures in accordance with department key measures. The operator must ensure all quality practices are being followed accurately and efficiently, keep the work area clean and orderly using the 5S system, and meet delivery schedules to ensure customer service and satisfaction. Additionally, the operator will analyze and monitor extrusion process data per the process control plan and extrusion process sheets, use log calculation to make billet adjustments, set up and modify extrusion process sheets, and properly take and inspect samples at all operations of the press cell according to customer required surface finish and tolerances. Changes to the press schedule may be made as necessary. General machine maintenance will be performed as needed to keep equipment in good condition. Other related assignments, including special projects, may be required.
