About The Position

ORAFOL Americas in Wallingford, CT is seeking dependable and reliable candidates for an Extrusion Assistant 1 position. This role is ideal for individuals seeking a career with opportunities for growth. Prior experience with plastics and mechanical ability are beneficial. The Assistant Tech 1 supports the Extrusion Technician by packing finished goods, cleaning equipment, learning labeling procedures, and operating a forklift. This is a hands-on role with a physical component, including material handling and lifting containers up to 35 lbs regularly, and up to 50 lbs infrequently. The position also requires maintaining housekeeping in the work area, following safety policies, and recommending improvements.

Requirements

High School Diploma/ GED/ Trade Experience
1 to 3 years Manufacturing Experience
Must have a positive “can do” attitude and a sense of accountability; takes initiative
Must be a fast learner, driven and self-motivated; strive towards continuous improvement
Required to maintain a clean and presentable appearance.
Technician is expected to be prepared to do their job function, and at their workstation by the beginning of the shift.
Technicians are expected to have minimum unplanned absences, as defined by the "Employee Attendance Expectations".
The Technician must maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
This includes maintaining all tools and equipment.
It is expected that the Technician works well with others; work cooperatively between shifts and departments in order that the overall company benefits.

Responsibilities

Packing finished goods, including stacking sheets and wrapping and strapping rolls according to packaging specifications.
Cleaning equipment such as hoppers, blenders, and bins.
Learning labeling procedures and required paperwork.
Operating a forklift to move goods around the extrusion floor after certification.
Following directions willingly and to the best of their ability.
Being a team player.
Handling material and lifting containers that weigh up to 35 Lbs on a regular basis or containers that can weigh up to 50 Lbs on an infrequent basis.
Climbing ladders to load materials.
Maintaining housekeeping in their area.
Following all safety policies and procedures.
Recommending changes to enhance equipment performance and improve safety.
Safe operation of all Orafol manufacturing equipment.
Certified to drive and operate Orafol Fork Trucks within the Plant.
Understanding and wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment.
Complying with all OSHA regulations and Company Policies.
Completing all paperwork/documentation accurately and completely.
Following all procedures, instructions, and specifications in performing their jobs.
Proactively detecting and reporting defective materials or questionable conditions to Supervisor.
Loading all specified Raw Materials into designated Hoppers.
Unloading, Packing, and Labeling Finished Goods from the Line.
Maximizing the "% Time Saving Good Product".
Demonstrating proficiency for their current Grade Level and satisfying all criteria for certification.
Gaining the necessary training towards improving their knowledge and work skills to be considered for the next Level.
Initiating additional tasks, training, cleaning, etc. during slack times, without the need for direct orders.
Completing scheduled tasks efficiently and within the designated time duration.
Meeting specific performance targets that are set for a given time period.
Offering ideas and suggestions that will improve the process or their job.
Being supportive of any changes or upgrades to products, equipment, processes etc.
Ensuring proper sheet count.
Neatly stacking and packaging the product correctly.
Measuring to ensure proper sheet length.
Monitoring rolls for gauge bands, high edges and telescoping.
Weighing rolls and packaging them properly.
Loading and unloading air chucks for Trim Winders.
Transporting material from staging area.
Loading the Main Hopper via the Novatec Vacuum System.
Loading ground scrap/ concentrate into the correct feeding hoppers for the Hydreclaim Blender.
Loading material into predryers and labeling it properly.
Grinding material that is produced on the line.
Peeling masking/ cutting down sheets for grinding.
Understanding of the different materials for grinding.
Preparing the line for start-up, wiping down pin rolls, setting up trim winders, setting up the correct skid for finish product.
Threading the line with the extruded material.
Setting up to properly package product using the packaging specification.
Cleaning at the end of their shift and maintaining an organized department.
Performing other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
