About The Position

Sets-up, runs and monitors 1 ½” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable. This role involves reading set-up sheets to determine product specifications, machine adjustments, and material requirements. The operator will set up and continuously monitor the extrusion line, observe and inspect products to ensure they meet specifications, and apply prints to cables using jet printers as required. The position also requires accurate completion of all job-specific documentation, cleaning equipment to prevent contamination, and recognizing/assisting in solving production defects and problems. The role also emphasizes promoting service excellence, quality, and adhering to the company's mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Six months related experience and/or training preferred.
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a machine in a production environment.
Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly.
Ability to read and follow basic instructions.
Ability to understand and implement quality procedures.
Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation.
Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.
Sighted individual (i.e., vision corrected to 20/20) for significant reading and computer usage.
Color vision.
Normal hearing (i.e., hearing corrected to normal ranges).

Responsibilities

Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine product to be manufactured, print specifications, machine adjustments, material requirements and/or special customer requirements.
Sets-up, runs and continuously monitors the 1 ½” extrusion line for all standard products.
Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to assure product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
Applies print to cables using jet printers as required.
Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required. Completes non-conformity paperwork for all defects and problems in products.
Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.
