About The Position

The Extruder Operator manages extrusion machines with 1-inch to 3-inch diameters, featuring 4 to 8 heat zones, to continuously extrude a poly plastic coat over wire. This role involves verifying and testing all wire and cable using calipers and cutters to determine correct outer diameter, wall thickness, conductor gauge, and centering. The operator is responsible for verifying proper labels and coding on each spool, ensuring labels match travelers, and placing them on the correct reel size. The position also includes working with and cross-training an Extruder Assistant, assisting in packaging products and materials when needed, and operating various machinery such as a Dual Reel Take Up (up to a 72-inch walk-through take-up machine), spark box, and dialed or touch screen systems. Setting up ink wheels or programming Ink jet print systems and adhering to all palletizing procedures are also key. Quality assurance and verification are paramount for a Primary Extruder Operator, along with completing any other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage extrusion machine(s) with 1inch to 3inch diameters that has 4 to 8 heat zones.
  • Proficiency in using calipers and cutters for wire and cable testing.
  • Experience operating a Dual Reel Take Up, up to a 72in. walk through take up machine, spark box, dialed or touch screen.
  • Ability to set up an ink wheel or program an Ink jet print system.
  • Knowledge of palletizing procedures.
  • Strong quality assurance and verification skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage extrusion machine(s) with 1inch to 3inch diameters that has 4 to 8 heat zones.
  • Extrude a poly plastic coat continuously over wire.
  • Verify and test all wire and cable by using calipers and cutters.
  • Determine the Correct outer Diameter, wall thickness, conductor gauge, and if the wire/conductor is centered.
  • Verify the proper label on each spool and the proper coding is printed on the jacket.
  • Verify that the label matches the traveler and is placed on the correct reel size.
  • Work with and periodically cross train an Extruder Assistant.
  • Assist in the Extrusion Assistant position when needed, including packaging products and materials.
  • Operate a Dual Reel Take Up, (up to a) 72in. walk through take up machine, spark box, dialed or touch screen.
  • Set up an ink wheel or program an Ink jet print system.
  • Adhere to all palletizing procedures when applicable.
  • Perform quality assurance and verification as a Primary Extruder Operator.
  • Complete any and all other duties requested or assigned.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
