About The Position

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is seeking an Extra Help - Yoga Instructor to join their team. Requirements

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Current Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher with a minimum of RYT 200 credential
  • Application must include a complete and detailed employment history highlighting relevant full-time and part-time work experience, including start and end dates of employment.
  • At least three professional references must be provided.
  • Out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position by providing proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to do so will result in immediate termination of employment.
  • All external candidates who receive a job offer will be required to undergo pre-employment screening, including a criminal background check and potentially other checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship will not be provided.
  • International students on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional, positive, and encouraging instructional presence by creating an inclusive, welcoming environment and communicating clearly with participants of varying ages, abilities, and fitness levels.
  • Arrive on time to prepare the instructional space, set up equipment, and ensure the class is ready to begin as scheduled.
  • Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and modifications to accommodate beginner, intermediate, and advanced participants.
  • Support participant needs, physical limitations, and accessibility considerations.
  • Monitor participants during class to promote proper form, safety, and appropriate intensity.
  • Communicate class expectations, safety guidelines, and wellness best practices to participants.
  • Communicate promptly with program staff regarding class needs, supply requests, schedule changes, or participant concerns.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the instructional space and equipment used during class.
  • Uphold all institutional, program, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Represent the outreach program in a professional manner and contribute to a positive community learning experience.
