About The Position

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) is a comprehensive community college committed to providing learning experiences that improve the lives of those we serve. UACCB provides affordable access to technical education and college transfer programs that meet the diverse higher education needs of the citizens of north central Arkansas. These programs are provided to the traditional college student as well as to high school students through a state approved Secondary Area Career Center. The Student Success Center Tutor provides comprehensive academic support to students through structured individual and small group tutoring in assigned subject areas. The tutor facilitates student learning by reinforcing course content, promoting effective study strategies, and fostering academic self-efficacy while encouraging independent learning and appropriate utilization of institutional resources. The role supports the broader mission of student persistence, retention, and completion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of coursework in the tutoring subject area with strong academic performance or equivalent accomplishment
  • Eligibility for employment under institutional hiring guidelines
  • Availability to work scheduled tutoring hours, including peak academic periods.
  • Foundational knowledge of assigned academic subject areas
  • Understanding of basic tutoring strategies and learning support practices
  • Familiarity with college-level academic expectations and student support services
  • Awareness of FERPA and student confidentiality standards
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in clear, accessible ways
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Basic computer and technology skills, including scheduling or reporting platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and communication with diverse audiences.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Work effectively with others from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Adapt tutoring approaches to different learning styles
  • Maintain professionalism, reliability, and ethical standards
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Coursework or training in education or student development
  • Familiarity with andragogy
  • Experience working in a community college or student support environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and group-based tutoring aligned with course curricula, learning outcomes, and faculty expectations.
  • Assist students in clarifying concepts, practicing skills, and applying knowledge within assigned disciplines while maintaining a student-centered, developmental approach.
  • Support students in developing transferable academic skills, including study strategies, time management, note-taking, test preparation, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Reinforce learning behaviors that promote long-term academic success rather than task completion alone.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and Student Success Center staff to support student learning through outreach initiatives, referrals, classroom support efforts, and indirect academic assistance.
  • Communication trends, common challenges, and resource needs to appropriate personnel to enhance student support services.
  • Participate in required training, meetings, assessment activities, and professional development.
  • Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that reflects the mission and values of the Student Success Center.
