About The Position
The Extra Help Research Assistant/Tractor Operator reports to the Farm Manager and supports research and teaching operations in small plot research, row crop production, and overall farm maintenance. This is a part time position, working 25-40 hours.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working on a farm.
- Demonstrated knowledge of agricultural practices and farm operations.
- Working knowledge of the safe operation, maintenance, and use of farm machinery and equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Responsibilities
- Operation of tractors, trucks, and harvesting equipment
- Application of fertilizers and pesticides (regulated tasks)
- Equipment attachment, maintenance, and repair
- Irrigation system setup and monitoring
- Manual crop maintenance (weeding, pruning, thinning)
- Loading/unloading materials and operating forklifts
- Supporting faculty-led research and instructional activities
