About The Position

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking to hire an Extra Help Assistant/Learning Assistant. This position is temporary (fixed term) and is part of the UALR | STEM Department. The Learning Assistant duties include assisting course instructors with designing, implementing, disseminating, and revising evidence-based teaching practices in their courses. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

• Some college experience
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
• Ability to creatively solve problems
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to receive, apply, and provide constructive feedback
• Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Nice To Haves

• Successfully completed qualifying STEM courses for which they are applying to be Learning Assistants, unless otherwise approved by the course instructor.

Responsibilities

• Assist course instructors in designing evidence-based teaching practices for the course instructors’ classes
• Assist course instructors in implementing evidence-based teaching practices in the course instructor’s class (either in class, workshop, or lab)
• Meet with the course instructor at least once a week to provide feedback and plan for the next week’s tasks
• Guide students in the course instructor’s class as they learn course material
