About The Position

Equity Methods is offering a two-day externship in December 2026 for students interested in advanced forecasting and budgeting within a complex accounting/finance area. This externship provides an opportunity to meet Equity Methods professionals, understand the types of problems tackled in consulting, and network with other students. The program aims to give participants exposure to forecasting and budgeting for stock-based compensation expense, using a real-world case from a Fortune 100 company. Equity Methods combines the strengths of a large professional services firm with an entrepreneurial, technology-enabled company, focusing on high impact and exemplary client service. Requirements

  • Strong academic track record (GPA should be listed on resume).
  • Current students at the Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate level.
  • Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related analytical field.
  • Not yet committed to a permanent position with another company at graduation.
  • Resourceful in learning and intellectually curious.
  • Interest in the role of technology in disrupting finance and accounting.
  • Interest in obtaining a consulting position upon graduation.
  • Ability to spend 2-4 hours on pre-externship preparation (baseline tutorials).

Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to forecasting and budgeting for stock-based compensation expense.
  • Model a real assignment provided by a Fortune 100 company.
  • Learn to forecast with precision in an area with many variables.
  • Understand how technology and data analytics are used to transform accounting and finance.
  • Complete online training covering stock compensation theory, SAS programming, and industry insights.
  • Work on a capstone case in forecasting, based on an actual Equity Methods initiative.
  • Learn to explain and present results from experienced Equity Methods presenters.
  • Participate in two days of in-office activities including training with managers, case work, and coaching.
  • Network with Equity Methods professionals during lunches and dinners to understand company culture and career realities in consulting.
