Requirements

  • 5 yrs. exp. in auditing or accounting, which must have included 30 mos. auditing exp. in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description AND 12 mos. exp. as audit team lead or auditor in charge.
  • Completion of undergraduate core coursework in accounting, business administration, computer science or related field AND 3 yrs. exp. in auditing or accounting which must have included 18 mos. auditing exp. in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description (in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards [GAGAS] and/or OMB Uniform Guidance) AND 12 mos. exp. as audit team lead or auditor in charge.
  • 12 mos. exp. as External Auditor 2, 66462.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits alone or with a team, gathering information and reviewing records, operations, and systems according to standard practices.
  • Lead audit teams and manage reviews of agency activities, especially for programs that receive funding or oversight from the state.
  • Make decisions on routine audit matters, handle tough audit issues, and step in for the supervisor when needed to keep work running smoothly.
  • Prepare and review audit reports to ensure they are accurate.
  • Follow agency rules and conduct meetings with those being audited.
  • Conduct data analysis of financial and programmatic information to identify trends, assess compliance, and support audit findings.
  • Offer technical advice to agencies being audited, answer questions about audits, and participate in training and staff meetings.
