External Affairs Assistant
About The Position
The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is seeking a college aide for its External Affairs division. The role provides high-level support to the team and is suited to a student interested in a career in public policy, government relations, community relations, law, or a related field. External Affairs advances the agency’s mission through relationships with elected officials, government agencies, community and faith-based organizations, business improvement districts, and New Yorkers. The position supports legislative affairs projects and policy initiatives, as well as community outreach and education events. Candidates should have a strong academic record, be highly organized, demonstrate keen attention to detail, manage multiple tasks, and be committed to excellence. Employment is conditioned on continuing as a student at an accredited college or graduate school. College Aide tenure is limited to six years. Students may not work more than half-time in any week when their classes are in session; they may work full-time during vacation periods.

Responsibilities
- Assist the Legislative Affairs Team with monitoring, tracking, and developing priority policies and legislation for the agency.
- Liaise with elected officials, community partners, and members of DCWP’s senior leadership team.
- Provide administrative and research support for special projects and policy initiatives for the Legislative Affairs Team.
- Support the Community Affairs team with outreach and education events.
