About The Position

Messing Roofing is seeking skilled, dependable Exterior Carpenters to join their growing Illinois operations. For over 40 years, Messing Roofing has been known for exceptional craftsmanship and customer service in residential roofing. The Exterior Carpenter will be responsible for structural and finish carpentry work related to residential roofing and exterior remodeling projects, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. This role is ideal for individuals who are motivated, safety-focused, and enjoy working outdoors.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of exterior carpentry or residential construction experience preferred.
  • Experience with roofing-related carpentry is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of framing, decking, trim, fascia, soffit, and structural repairs.
  • Ability to safely use power tools and carpentry equipment.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic construction math.
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and work at heights.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform exterior carpentry related to residential roofing projects.
  • Installation of fiber cement and other designer siding systems, new construction and replacement windows and doors.
  • Installation of exterior and interior trim carpentry.
  • Repair or replace roof decking, fascia, soffits, rake boards, and exterior trim.
  • Install and repair framing, sheathing, and other structural components as required.
  • Build and repair wood structures to support roofing and exterior renovation projects.
  • Measure, cut, and install lumber and building materials accurately.
  • Read and interpret project plans, work orders, and specifications.
  • Identify hidden structural damage and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Ensure all work complies with local building codes and manufacturer specifications.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Roofing Crews, and Site Supervisors to complete projects on schedule.
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners when necessary.
  • Complete all assigned work while maintaining Messing Roofing's quality standards.
